English Premier League

The English premier league has kicked off again for another year. Manchester United are currently the only team after 3 rounds to have won all their matches, but with a long season ahead we can't look to much into the ladder at the moment, having said that though you don't want to get off to a slow start and have to play catch up football in the rest of the season.

Here are my predictions for the season.

I think Liverpool will win the title. They have a really strong team that knows what it takes to win trophys, they won the champions league 2 seasons ago coming from behind and then last season (earlier this year) they won the FA cup also coming from behind. They have in my opinion the second best player in the world in Stevie Gerrard. They are now ready to make a strong surge for the premiership title, Rafael Benitez has assembled the right team to do it, and of course they have the right coach in Benitez who has proved time and time again that he is a great coach. To put it simply they are a champion team.

Manchester United have got off to a great start scoring plenty of goals. They have great players in their team with the likes of Ronaldo, Rooney, Giggs, Scholes and Saha. Any team with these players in it can not be written off, i believe they can win it but i believe they won't win it, top 4? definately, as always.

Arsenal, another one of the powerhouses of European Football. They had a great run to make the final of the European Champions League last year which cannot go under estimated, that takes a lot of skill and a lot of things have to go right. They boast the best striker in the world in Thierry Henry, a great keeper Jens Lehmann, one of the best young players in the world, 17 year old Theo Walcott and a good midfeild with the likes of Fabregas and Rosicky. They should finish in the top 4 but they were lucky to do that last year and even with those great players they might struggle to make it, particularly if they get distracted by a good run in the FA cup or Champions league.

Then there is Chelsea, they have won the past 2 premierships and are odds on favourite to do it again. However I can see them not making the top 4 as much as I can see them winning the competition. In my opinion they have turned into a team like Real Madrid, they have plenty of champion players in their team but I just don't think they can turn that into being a champion team, they have bought big during the transfer window buying Shevchenko and Ballack who are in the top group of players in the world but that could count against them having to many egos in the team. They will also be concentrating on the champions league a lot more then the premiership.

If anyone is going to break into the top 4 i think it will be Everton or the team who almost did it last year, Tottenham. If you fancy a punt go for Liverpool to win on the handicap (I think they will win anyway, but just to be safe) and for top goal scorer try backing Loius Saha.

Feel free to comment on your thoughts.

Actually Portsmouth, Villa and Everton are still undefeated after 3 games, but Man U is the only one to have won all three of its games.

Everton, Portsmouth and Tottenham would be my top contenders for cracking the top four this year (and West Ham has an outside chance). Arsenal is off to a dreadful start and has some serious catch-up to do. I also liked 'Pool this year to win it all, but with the injuries they have on D they will have to play some inspired football for the next little while to keep pace.

What do people think of the newly promoted sides? Think Reading is for real? Are any of them going to stay up for next year?
